1) Do I pour out the thick oil on the top of the earth’s choice peanut butter and does the peanut butter have to be refrigerated?
Don’t pour away those oils! They are naturally occurring peanut oils and keep the peanut butter from drying out so it stays smooth and creamy. Just leave them in the jar and stir back in before use. Your peanut butter does need to be refrigerated.
2) How are earth’s choice goods packed?
Many of our products are packed in glass. Why? Glass can be recycled over and over again, via your own residential curb-side pickup programs, or through drop-off recycling facilities. Others are packed in tin. Even our liners meet the strictest global standards set by the European Union (EU) regulations for BPA-containing liners at less than 0.05ppm.
3) How should I store olive oil?
Unlike wine, olive oil does not get better with age! To maintain the optimal freshness and taste: keep bottles tightly sealed, away from light (hence our tinted bottle), and store in a dark, cool space such as a cupboard away from the stovetop. Following these ideal storage techniques will prevent oxidation that can cause a slightly pungent or rancid taste.
4) Why is there guar gum in the earth’s choice coconut milk and where is it sourced?
Guar gum is used to prevent the coconut milk from separating, which keeps the product smooth and creamy in its best and recognizable form. Our organic guar gum is from the US and is certified by the Maryland Department of Agriculture according to USDA standards.
5) What are the organic certification standards of the coconut milk?
Our coconut milk (including the groves where the coconuts are grown) are certified by Australian Certified Organic (ACO) Pty according to ACO and USDA standards.
6) Are your rice cakes manufactured in a facility with an Allergen Control Program in place, and are your products send for third party lab testing?
Yes, our BC-based facility has documented HACCP-based Allergen Control Program in place and periodically sends finished products to be tested by SGS Canada for gluten analysis.
7) If I have an allergy to peanuts, is it safe for me to consume your sesame rice cakes?
Allergy to sesame is becoming more and more common. According to some studies, sesame allergies appear to be related to peanut and tree nut allergies. It is not recommended to consume sesame products if you have a known peanut allergy. Always consult your doctor.
8) How does your Organic Decaf Coffee maintain its organic integrity?
Normal decaffeinated coffees are separated using an alcohol and chemical process, however our decaf coffee is Swiss Water processed which allows the product to maintain its organic integrity.
9) What is the Swiss Water decaffeination process?
The Swiss Water decaffeination process soaks green (unroasted) beans in hot water to release the caffeine and coffee solids in each bean. The water is then passed through a carbon filter that traps and removes the caffeine, allowing the coffee solids to pass through and be collected for roasting. Unlike many other decaffeination processes, the Swiss Water Process does not use any chemicals, allowing our decaffeinated coffee to maintain its organic integrity.
10) How is the tuna sourced?
All our tuna is wild. In fact, it is sourced from suppliers that are registered with the International Seafood Sustainability Foundation (www.iss-foundation.org) , which is a foundation working on science based initiatives for the long term sustainability of tuna socks, reduction of by-catch and promotion of the ecosystem health. In addition, all product is soured from regulated / registered vessels that allows traceability of the raw material back to the catch vessel and catch area.
